Whether your puppy or dog needs to learn basic skills for the first time, needs a brush-up, or needs to take the next steps — private instruction in your home offers a program tailored precisely to your needs. For puppies and beginner adults, Best Friends can help with housetraining, daily structure, mouthing and biting, household manners, self-management, and all necessary basic skills. For leash walking, we address pulling, lagging, reluctance to walk, arousal at the sight of squirrels, birds, people and other dogs, and more.

Your trainer will demonstrate exercises with your dog where appropriate. After each session you'll receive step-by-step notes on everything we've covered — as handouts or by email the next day.

Rates

Some dog behaviour needs go beyond skills training. When problems arise from an out-of-proportion emotional response to triggers in your dog's life, you'll need a combination of skills development and emotional counterconditioning — helping your dog feel differently about the things that cause unwanted behaviour.

Prior to your first appointment, Andrew will conduct a short phone pre-interview to identify whether regular training or a Behaviour program is right for you. Your first appointment is 90 minutes: detailed history, training priorities, and first steps. Subsequent 60-minute appointments follow up on your progress and chart next steps.

An optional online workbook lets you record your work between sessions. Your trainer can read your reporting and come prepared with evidence-based next steps. You may also optionally have prescribed counterconditioning steps added to your workbook (additional fee applies).
